Hey Rich,
When Assisi processes logs with field calls enabled will it still use selected shape function to populate missing data?
I prefer to use field calls for log lengths and defects over optimized, but we did not take diameter measurements for each log. only top of the first 32 (form factor).
I was just curious how Assisi handles blanks in this scenario. will it default to the selected tree shape function by species? or does it use a baseline formula to determine diameters? if so, which? Behre's? Simple Cone?
Sorry for the delay. Web site is not that great with notifications.
Normally one would estimate "missing" values such as merch top using a regression or taper function. But since you use the word "count" do these trees even have DBH?
The word "count tree" is usually used in the double sample sense such as trees on count plots or count trees in a big BAF design. DBH is often not measured on count trees, but it does not matter because the measure trees are considered a good representation of height and diameter variability.
Are your "count" trees counts int he double sample sense or are they just trees with species and DBH measured but without merch height measured?
