Spatial Viewing and Mapping

How is spatial data actually incorporated into the applications. I see brochures with maps in the interface..what technology is used for this interface and is it interactive? (i.e.: can I query/map the spatial data from this interface?)

Hi Brian,

The GIS that is in Assisi now is about 5 years old and uses shape files. GIS has not yet been a big draw for our users as of yet and so the current implementation is really just exploratory. Stand, plots and trees all have a GID field to map to shape file IDs and you can click an item in the map and it brings the detail to focus in Assisi. You can also create all sorts of thematic maps based on a SQL query of your design. But still, it’s old and needs an update. It is likely that with a push into Operation, we will be updating the integrated mapping for sure.

  • Wanted to give a quick update on Assisi Cruiser, our upcoming data collector. Our prototype in PowerApps is working OK, but PowerApps has too many restrictions like meant to be online and can only share apps with members of the same computer domain. So now I am also prototyping in Xamarin: the cross platform (iOS, Android & Windows) tool of choice for most serious developers. It's going well and I should have something for others to test soon. Send me a note if you are interested in beta testing! Rich
  • Is is possible to change the BAF in the middle of a cruise?
  • This afternoon we are starting our seasonal inventory cruising program. Radial growth measurement. I would like a 5 year growth measurement. You have a field in Assisi for this, but I don’t see one on the spreadsheet. Just add it before the first segment call?
