Managing Stands versus Blocks

We conduct inventories on stands and blocks as independent and separate entities. Sometimes blocks are parts of neighbouring stands, sometimes they are full stands, sometimes not. Does Assisi handle the management of volume estimates (compilations) for both "stands" and "blocks" simultaneously? Does the spatial component then map the data back to the "stand" vs "block"?

Hi Brian, Assisi Manager is focused on inventory, growth and yield rather than operations. Look for an Operations focus in our Assisi Enterprise product. That said, simulating harvest units realistically would mean not using stand boundaries. But, it is too big a convenience to just go with the inventory stands already available for simulating growth and yield. So cut blocks or harvest units are not fully realized in Assisi Manager. Is it a cop out? I say not fully realized, because there are in fact Harvest Unit and Harvest Unit Cut Out tables in the database. These tables describe a harvest unit as the intersection of portions of multiple stands. Its just that there are no reports or special processing going on for harvest units at this time. But, defining your units in these tables is straightforward and creating a report in SQL or Access is easily done. Just weight the available inventory values from the contributing stands by acres. But again, our push into Operations will include much more on harvest units and cut outs. Rich

  • Wanted to give a quick update on Assisi Cruiser, our upcoming data collector. Our prototype in PowerApps is working OK, but PowerApps has too many restrictions like meant to be online and can only share apps with members of the same computer domain. So now I am also prototyping in Xamarin: the cross platform (iOS, Android & Windows) tool of choice for most serious developers. It's going well and I should have something for others to test soon. Send me a note if you are interested in beta testing! Rich
  • Is is possible to change the BAF in the middle of a cruise?
  • This afternoon we are starting our seasonal inventory cruising program. Radial growth measurement. I would like a 5 year growth measurement. You have a field in Assisi for this, but I don’t see one on the spreadsheet. Just add it before the first segment call?
