Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we are asked most often. If yours is not here, get in touch.

Licensing

How is Assisi Software licensed?

Licensing is per product. Assisi Compiler, Inventory, and Forest are licensed per seat, while Assisi Cruiser is licensed per device for field use. Assisi Enterprise is licensed per organization and adds multi-user access to all of your other Assisi products at once. See the Licensing Page for details, or Contact Us for a quote tailored to your operation.

Can I upgrade between products later?

Yes. The Assisi suite is designed so each product is a superset of the smaller ones β€” your existing data, cruises, and projections carry forward without conversion when you move up. Contact Us about upgrade pricing.

What does Assisi Enterprise add to the other products?

By default, Assisi Compiler, Inventory, and Forest are designed for one person at a time β€” the database assumes a single user is working in it. Assisi Enterprise is the multi-user upgrade, layered on top of any of these products to let your whole team work in the same database simultaneously. Record-level locking on stands, plans, and other items prevents users from overwriting each other’s work.

Do you offer trial or evaluation licenses?

Yes. We offer a traditional 30-day trial, and for a small fee we can also set up your trial in the cloud so there’s nothing to install locally. Reach out through the Contact Page to arrange whichever option fits your situation best.

Support

What kind of support is included?

Licensed users get several layers of support. Inside Assisi itself, one-click remote help connects you directly to our team for hands-on troubleshooting. Online, there is the Support Forum where users discuss questions and share answers with the broader Assisi community. There are also Study Topics offering in-depth discussions of features, tutorials, and reference materials. Posts in both include pictures and videos alongside text. And our AI Chat is trained on Assisi’s features and inner workings and is available anytime for questions about how to use the software.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Reach out to us directly at rhoward@assisisoft.com, post to the Support Forum, or send a message via the Contact Page. It also helps to check Version History to see if we’ve already addressed your issue in a recent release.

Is training available?

Reach out to us for tailored training or onboarding. Our website is also a repository for many kinds of learning and collaboration β€” browse Study Topics for in-depth tutorials and reference material, or join the Support Forum to learn from the broader Assisi user community.

Where can I see what's changed in recent releases?

The Version History lists release notes for all products. For a recent example, see the Assisi Forest 2026 Updates blog post.

Are updates included with my license?

Version updates are included for the first year after licensing, so you start with full access to the latest features, model improvements, and fixes as they’re released. After the first year, an annual maintenance fee keeps you on the latest version. Our Version Update page maintains a list of the more important updates during each year.

Features

What are the system requirements?

A modern Windows PC is all you need. All products except Assisi Cruiser run on SQL Server, including the free SQL Server Express edition β€” which supports databases up to 10 GB and is plenty for most operations to get started and keep going. Assisi itself isn’t demanding on RAM or processing power; 8 GB of RAM and 25 GB of free disk space (covering both Assisi and SQL Server Express) is a comfortable baseline. For Assisi Enterprise deployments, Contact Us with your environment details and we’ll confirm the right server setup.

Can Assisi Software be customized for my organization's workflows?

Scripting and automation are available with Assisi Enterprise, which adds a built-in C# scripting tool for automating complex or routine analyses and custom workflows, the ability to generate custom reports in Excel, and the option to run Assisi programmatically from external Visual Studio projects for deep integration. See the Scripting and Customization pages for details.

Which growth and biomass models are supported?

Carbon estimation uses Jenkins, Component Ratio Method (CRM), and National Scale Volume and Biomass (NSVB) methods β€” see Carbon Modeling in Assisi Forest Management Software for details. Growth projection models are applied per stand and species; the Assisi Growth Models blog post and the Models Page cover the full list.

Does Assisi Software integrate with GIS?

GIS is integrated at the stand, plot, and tree levels in every product. You can map your ownership and design cruises using GIS directly in Assisi. With operations planning, you can define harvest sites and calculate stand statistics from intersected polygons. See Forest Inventory Mapping in Assisi Forest and Importing Maps into Assisi Forest for examples.

Field

Does Assisi Software handle field data collection?

Survey import and compilation are part of every Assisi product. A convenient Excel sheet designed for in-field use is available for import, and of course direct uploads from Assisi Cruiser are standard. The Assisi Cruiser Mobile Data Collection blog post shows the mobile workflow in detail.

Can I import existing cruise data?

Assisi supports a variety of import formats including Excel, CSV, FVS, FIA, and KML for maps. The Excel import path is particularly convenient for converting and mapping from proprietary formats to Assisi. See Importing CSV Files and FPS Import for examples, or Contact Us with a sample of your data format if you need help.

Inventory

How does Assisi Software project stand growth over time?

Inventory projections run on a common growth engine, with models applied per stand and species. The Yearly Inventory and Forest Volume Calculation blog posts walk through how projections are built and how volume is calculated. Projections feed directly into the inventory, planning, and simulation tools.

Can I model thinning and partial harvests?

Yes β€” products that include planning offer detailed thinning options with full stand response modeling, so you can compare residual stand outcomes across treatment scenarios. See Forest Thinning With Assisi Manager for an in-depth look.

Planning

What planning horizons are supported?

Decade-scale and longer. You can design and simulate harvest schedules by prescription, single action, or rotation, and lay them out using the drag-and-drop management scheduler. The Assisi Stand Simulator blog post shows the simulation engine in action.

Can I compare multiple management scenarios?

Yes. Model scenarios side by side to compare volume, carbon, and cash flow outcomes. Discounted cash flow analysis is included for financial planning and investment evaluation. See the Stand Simulator blog post for an example workflow.

Can Assisi Software forecast cash flow?

Yes. The Operations module in Assisi Enterprise tracks near-term cash flow from planned and historical operations, including actions, income, expenses, and progress on each site. For long-horizon strategic planning, discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis runs across the full management plan to compare investment outcomes across scenarios. See Assisi Markets and Timber Valuation for how Markets, Sorts, and Grades drive valuation.

Can I track on-the-ground operations?

Yes β€” this is what the Operations feature in Assisi Enterprise adds. Track actions, income, expenses, progress, and documents tied to each site, so planned work and actual results stay connected in one database.
